My team has really improved recently thanks to your help, and I am moving up in the standings. I luckily traded Chris Stewart the morning before he got hurt. I wanted to possibly get Tomas Fleischmann or Tomas Kopecky, but I didn’t know if it was worth it. Could you give me some advice on this? I was also considering dropping Michal Neuvirth because I managed to pick up Semyon Varlamov.
Here is my team:
C: Brandon Dubinsky, Henrik Sedin, Steven Stamkos, Derick Brassard
LW: Daniel Sedin, Alex Burrows, Brooks Laich, Ville Leino
RW: Dany Heatley, Joe Pavelski, Alexander Semin, Steve Downie
D: Paul Martin, Steve Montador, Keith Yandle, Dan Girardi, Joni Pitkanen, Brooks Orpik
G: Neuvirth, Varlamov, Jimmy Howard, Marc-Andre Fleury, Ondrej Pavelec
BN: Jarret Stoll, Justin Williams, Jeff Skinner
Some notable free agents: Erik Johnson, Tyler Myers, Peter Mueller, Jason Arnott, David Perron, Rich Peverley, David Clarkson, Andreh Meszaros, Mattias Tedenby
League Categories: G, A, PTS, +/-, PIM, PPG, PPP, SHP, GWG, SH%, FW, FL, HT, BLK, W, L, GA, GAA, SV, SA, SV%, SHO
Looking at your forwards, I would not drop any one of them for Fleischmann or Kopecky. Both players have significant short-term value, but I don’t think you’d experience a significant upgrade by adding two forwards whose fantasy value has spiked because of injury. As well, I wouldn’t drop Neuvirth either, even though Varlamov seems to have reclaimed the starter’s role in Washington. Neuvirth’s fantasy value could be huge again if the pendulum swings the other way.
Where I would make your changes is on defense. I know Myers is off to a slow start, but I would still consider him a better long-term fantasy option than Montador. Much of Montador’s fantasy value is in his +16, and neither his career stats nor the team he plays for suggests he’ll keep it up. Johnson is also struggling, but I would also keep an eye on his progress. The former first overall pick nearly reached the 40-point watermark for defensemen last season, and I wouldn’t hesitate to drop a guy like Martin if he goes on a run. Normally, I would suggest dropping Girardi and Orpik, but they are both great options in leagues that count hits and blocked shots.
I have a question about Devin Setoguchi. Do you think that his ability to score will come back? On the waiver wire I have Tomas Kopecky (assist and SOG), Derek Dorsett (hits and PIM), and Patrick Kaleta (hits and PIM) because for now Devin provides me only hits.
I think I mentioned to you to add Setoguchi last month? I guess I’ll have to change course and suggest that you drop him. The emergence of Logan Couture has bumped Setoguchi out of the top 6, and that was even before Seto was sidelined with an injury. I would add Kopecky, since he has already proven that he will benefit from the Marian Hossa injury (1 goal, 3 assists on Tuesday). Don’t be surprised if I revisit this again in a few weeks, when both Hossa and Setoguchi are back from injury.
