Fire on Ice

Antoine Vermette, LW, C CMB (25GP-7g-7a-14pts, with a +6 and 16 PIMs)
R. J. Umberger, C CMB (25GP-8g-11a-19pts, with a +9 and 24 PIMs)
Saturday night’s shellacking against Pittsburgh aside, these two have been red hot over the past couple of weeks. Umberger is coming off a career high ten-game point streak, thanks in part to the suddenly heating up Vermette. Of course, Vermette has the more proven track record of the two coming off a 65-point season a year ago, but Umberger has produced very nicely across the board and may have a little more upside in leagues that count penalty minutes.

Taylor Hall, LW, EDM (26GP-9g-6a-15pts, with a (-2) and 6 PIMs)
Jordan Eberle, RW, C, EDM (26GP-5g-13a-18pts, with a (-2) and 4 PIMs)
The Oilers’ future has looked much improved over the past couple of weeks, as the Hall/Eberle line has slowly progressed to top-line status. Eberle has looked very impressive for most of the season already, but it’s the emergence of Hall’s scoring touch that has been most impressive. Hall now has six goals in the last eight games for the Oilers, including two overtime winners, and the Oilers are a very respectable 6-2-0 over that span.

Roman Hamrlik, D, MTL (25GP-2g-12a-14pts, with a +7 and 24 PIMs)
I’ve been debating including Hamrlik here for a couple weeks since any time I’ve ever picked him up in a fantasy league he has instantly stopped producing, but I have to admit he deserves a little credit at this point. With the injury to Andrei Markov and the up-and-down play of P. K. Subban, Hamrlik has easily been the most consistent force on the Habs’ blueline this year. He has five points (1g-4a) on a three-game point streak right now, and he’s in a contract year, so the motivation should be there to keep it going.

Evan also suggested a couple Flames who may be available in your league:
Alex Tanguay (23 points in 26 games leads the Flames before Sunday’s action)
Matt Stajan (16 points in 22 games, points in 8 of last 10 games before Sunday’s action)
